DVD Play

My modified version of DVD-Play can now be found at http://helixtech.org.uk/dvd-play

Introduction

DVD Play is an application originally made by Adam Pash of Lifehacker. You can find information about the original program here:

http://lifehacker.com/360658/browse-and-play-your-ripped-dvds-with-dvd-play

It allows you to browse a folder full of DVD rips or downloads, with cover art, and launch them automatically in VLC. I use it all the time, and it's great for showing people your collection.

Features

My version, called 0.5, incorporates a number of new features, some from the comments thread on the lifehacker post, some of my own design.

The improvements include:

  • No longer needs cover art to launch a film
  • All films are no longer launched at once
  • Directories / Filenames can be longer than 63 characters
  • VLC can be placed in any folder
  • Cover art automatically downloaded from Amazon.

Updates

July 09 - Version 0.5a contains updated Amazon code that will keep functioning once they switch to secure-only services in August.
